Ted McWharf
Ted McWharf was originally hired as a operations engineer but he quickly demonstrated his skills in maintenance and organization skills. After I had been there a few years we bought our first video camera and video editing equipment. Ted was tasked with the maintenance of this gear and it was not easy. The early equipment needed frequent adjustments. Ted studied the manuals and eventually taught himself how to repair all this gear.

One day he was in the shop frustrated trying to fix a video player. He showed me the page in the manual that had instructions for how to make this adjustment. Translated from the original language, it said “to make this adjustment first contemplate the screw.” We had a good laugh about that.

Ted eventually became a manager and he became the organizer of engineering. He excelled at keeping records, setting up special events, shipping gear out for repairs, purchasing all the parts and batteries we needed to run things smoothly. He had a critical role in keeping engineering running smoothly. I often had to go into the office for batteries or special parts and we would chat about many things.
