Our corporation had talked about building a production facility in the building where the promotion department is now. WOKR was trying to compete in the growing field of commercial production. It was very exciting when the new equipment began to arrive. This audio board arrived in engineering and sat under the window to the pit, in my view, for ages. I was so disappointed that this board wasn’t being put in sub.
Then we heard that the project was cancelled. They started selling all the video reel tape machines and other equipment. They finally decided that they would take a huge loss trying to sell this ADM broadcast board. So after looking at it sit unused for a very long time, it was finally going to be my new board!
Stan put a bunch of custom setups on it so we could do things like record off line while operating on the air, we had new mix-minus interrupts for live shots and the ability to group pots into group masters. There were separate controls for the audio and director monitors. I also could plug a headset into the board and work on the radio promotion reels that I did weekly. A true production board!
We finally had an audio reel to reel deck and I started playing the show music off of this. However, we still had only a mono audio signal over the air. I felt that I would be grey before we would finally broadcast in stereo.
