It was a very sad time for all of us who worked with him. He was still very much his outgoing self, but he knew his strength to do a full day’s work was diminishing. So the day was set for him to retire. I had begun getting a daily hug from Bill as the time approached and this last day was no exception.
We recorded Bill’s promo in the afternoon daily and I went out in the studio to put his mic on and get my hug. Little did I know that the D&C reporter was there taking this photo. It showed up the next morning on the front page of the local page.
I cannot describe the sadness that I still have about Bill. We were good friends, we talked every day when I changed his mic batteries. Bill taught me many important things about life and I can say he was a mentor to me about how to live a good life. I miss him.
