Barbara Walters and Harry Reasoner

A short time after I started working at WOKR, ABC announced they they were adding Barbara Walters to be part of an anchor team with Harry Reasoner on the ABC evening news. This was the only woman on national television that worked in network news at that time. I probably found this amazing and reassuring.

ABC co-opted with local stations to build viewership and so we had this personalized promo with Barbara and Harry “pushing” viewers to watch our newscasts. It wasn’t too long after this that the dual anchor team was dissolved by the network as Mr. Reasoner didn’t enjoy sharing the anchor desk with Ms. Walters.
