There was a problem editing the video on the regular news editing tape machines because this promo needed precise video cuts to the music. One of our engineers, Franco LaPietra, decided to try editing this in the TCR-100, a huge machine that we used to play commercials. A large oval carriage held many video carts that contained single commercials and would rotate around to place the carts in front of the doors. Internal arms would pull the carts inside and load the tape onto the video head.
The company had decided to purchase an editor accessory for the TCR-100 so we could edit multiple commercials together onto one cart. This editor had the ability to edit in frames (portions of a second) and this is exactly what Franco needed for these precise video cuts to the music. There are an amazing number of employees on this video. Barbara Rogers, Wanda Miller, Jeanelle Beale, Frank Diprosa, Gerry Walker, Steve Sigelow, Mike Barnes, Dick Shelinger, Matt Rinaldi, Ted McWarf, Marta O’Keefe, Kent Beckwith, Lauren Dixon and others I no longer remember their names. I do remember how much this boosted everyone’s spirit at work.
